May 2017 Director’s Message
Dear Members,
We’re in awe of your generosity! During the first week of April, our annual letter went out to our community members asking for their support of the Center. What’s happened since has blessed us beyond measure. Canary yellow envelopes are flooding our mailbox and we’re so very grateful. The generosity has been pouring in and our hearts are overflowing with gratitude. We can’t fully express how grateful we are for each and every person who’s responded with donations, encouraging words, heartfelt inspiration, and support. We are truly honored to be a part of something so beautiful.
While the donations are many, our team works diligently to seek funding in all ways possible. Currently we have two grants pending that we’d love to share with you. Through the Oregon Food Bank, we are seeking a grant in the amount of $1,800 for additional refrigeration. Our nutrition program has expanded every year since we assumed management of the Center in 2013. The need for proper refrigeration continues to rise and our flourishing relationship with the Oregon Food Bank makes this both possible and fruitful as donations are coming weekly to us now of fresh produce. Additionally, we are seeking $1,500 from Meals on Wheels America for pet food assistance. Many Seniors have companion and service animals, and we wants to better care for them so that the food designed to feed our senior recipients is not being fed to their pets. We’ve partnered with “Animeals” for years to provide this service, and with this funding we believe we can expand this program to assist even more seniors and their furry friends.
As we settle into May, there is much to celebrate. We want to wish our Mothers reading this, a beautiful and happy Mother’s Day! We also want to take the time to pause and honor our brave men and women who served this country and sacrificed their lives for our freedom on this Memorial Day. Whomever and however you’re celebrating this month, we hope you have a beautiful May!
